Join the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions for its 56th Annual International Convention and 42nd Annual General Meeting which will be held from June 21 – 25, 2013, at the RIU Panama Plaza Hotel, Panama City, Panama, under the theme “The Credit Union Difference: Members Matter Most”. The historically and architecturally rich Panama City, will host a truly global event as Credit Union Executives Society (CUES) whose membership comprises Credit Union Executives and Directors in fourteen (14) countries worldwide, again partners with the Confederation to host the event.

Co-operative Sector leaders, managers and their peers will have the opportunity to network and participate in general and breakout sessions emphasising the Credit Union Difference and its services and systems to satisfy members’ needs.

Panama City (Spanish – Ciudad de Panamá) is the Capital and largest city of the Republic of Panama. Located at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal, Panama City is a dynamic metropolis dubbed “the Dubai of the Americas” by local residents.

Founded in 1519 by a Spanish Conquistador Arias Dávila, it has a population of approximately 880,691 and is the political and administrative centre for the Republic, as well as a hub for international banking and commerce.

Explored and settled by the Spanish in the 16th Century, Panama broke with Spain in 1821 and joined a union of Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, named the Republic of Gran Colombia.

When the latter dissolved in 1830, Panama remained part of Colombia. With the backing of the United States of America, Panama seceded from Colombia in 1903 and promptly signed a treaty with the US allowing for the construction of a canal and US sovereignty over a strip of land on either side of the structure (the Panama Canal Zone).
