We are all aware of the catastrophic devastation which has befallen Haiti. In an effort to alleviate the plight and suffering of the people, we attach the circular soliciting assistance to help our fellow cooperators. This is in keeping with the credit union philosophy of people helping people.
Historically, we know that the Haitian people are a very resilient set of people and we pray that they will find the strength and will-power to pick up the pieces and recover from this natural disaster.

CCCU President’s International Credit Union Day Message
CCCU President’s International Credit Union Day Message
Happy International Credit Union Day!!
On behalf of the Board of Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU), let me first of all wish our 17 Affiliates, their 300 Credit Unions and 1.9 million members, a successful and happy International Credit Union Day, as we choose to reflect on our achievements both regionally and internationally and commemorate our history.
As we celebrate this day, with our entire Credit Union family worldwide, we reflect on the contributions that Credit Unions make every day in the lives of our 185 million members worldwide.
The theme of our celebration this year is, Your Money. Your Choice. Your Credit Union. This theme highlights the importance and involvement of members in the running of their Credit Union, which is owned by the members, democratically operated with heavy reliance on Voluntarism.
This theme reminds our 1.9 million members regionally and our over 185 million members worldwide, who choose Credit Unions as their access to financial services, that Credit Unions are all about them - your money, your choice and your Credit Union.

The Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU) had agreed to make a worthwhile donation, through its Development Foundation, to the Haitian Cooperative Movement. In this regard, the CCCU President and the Acting CEO visited Haiti on January 23, 2009 and donated US $10,000 to the Conseil National des Cooperatives (CNC).
This donation would be used to assist fellow cooperators who were adversely affected by hurricane Omar.
Symposium on “Emerging Regulatory and Economic Challenges – The Credit Union Response”
Symposium on “Emerging Regulatory and Economic Challenges – The Credit Union Response”
Feature Address by Glenford Ysaquirre, Governor Central Bank of Belize
The theme for this symposium “Emerging Regulatory and Economic Challenges – The Credit Union Response” is most appropriate in view of the present global financial crisis. You certainly will agree that we are in the throes of a crisis of unparalleled financial proportions; that the past year has seen unprecedented events that have significantly impacted the global financial markets. Many reasons can and will be cited for the current crisis the least of which will certainly not be the virtual disappearance of regulatory oversight which led to prolonged build-up of structural imbalances, excessive and reckless risk taking and of course acute acquisitiveness mostly on the part of investment bankers.
My purpose today is to talk about financial sector regulation and supervision. Its remarkable how things have changed so rapidly since October of 2008; overnight, strict regulation and supervision are once again de rigueur in the financial industry. For many years before, regulators were often treated like those unwanted stepchildren of the industry...
Dear Affiliates,
What we had dreaded during the last four (4) months was brought to reality on Friday January 30th, 2009, whereby the US Financial crisis was beginning to have a ripple effect upon our Caribbean Financial System.
Since the financial meltdown and fallout commenced in the United States, calls have been made to the various Leagues in the CCCU System, who reported that they had not felt any adverse impact up to mid-January 2009 although some impacts were anticipated in the short to medium term.
Over the past 60 years, co-operative credit unions have been serving
generations of employed and self-employed breadwinners throughout the
Caribbean region in rural, town and city communities with devotion and
diligence. We have stayed with our members through good times, natural
disasters, unfriendly attacks and economic downturns.
Today (Oct. 16, 2008) we join with millions of our brothers and sisters worldwide in observance and celebration of International Credit Union Day. This year’s theme: “ It Belongs to Me” reminds us of the raison d’etre of our phenomenal institution.
Dominica is the largest of the Windward Islands, and is volcanic in its
origin. The Island is famous for its high, steep mountains which are
rich in forestation. It is said that the Island has three hundred and
sixty-five (365) rivers/streams, which flow swiftly down to the sea.
Descendants of the Carib Indians still populate the North East of the
Island.
