About the Organization
The Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU) was established on August 17, 1972 in the island of Dominica as the successor of the West Indies Conferences of Credit Societies.
The CCCU is a non-profit Organisation registered in Barbados and the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis and serves as the apex Organisation for credit unions throughout the Caribbean.
Structure
The Organisation is governed by a Board of Directors elected by members at the Annual General Meeting.
The day to day operations are managed by a Chief Executive Officer and supported by management specialists in Human Resources Development,
Information Technology, Special Events, Convention Co-ordinator and Administrative Staff
The CCCU is organised under two (2) major strategies of operations as follows: -
Trade Association
Responsible for enhancing the image and profile of the CCCU as well as projecting the Co-operative sector as a major regional influence towards Socio-Economic advancement.
The Trade Association achieves its goals through Administrative Support, Advocacy, Lobbying, Marketing, Representation, and Research on behalf of its affiliates.

Development Foundation
Established in 1983, the Foundation aims at fostering Social and Community Development through co-operative activities. Funds are mobilised from individuals, private sector, and donor agencies to aid in Disaster Relief, Educational Programmes, Youth and Rural Development. Initiatives are underway to establish the Development Foundation as a Charitable Organisation.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Annual General Meeting and International Convention
An important activity for the CCCU is the holding of its annual general meeting and international convention. This forum has evolved into a major event fostering regional integration and providing professional development opportunities through training workshops, internships, and youth entrepreneurial development.
In addition to an impressive line up of keynote facilitators, participants engage in a variety of social activities that showcase the culture and spirit of Caribbean people. The event is hosted in a different country each year with the following schedule already determined:
2005 - St. Kitts & Nevis
2006 - Puerto Rico
2007 - Barbados
2008 - Grenada
Everard Dean Memorial Lecture
Launched in February 2000, the Memorial Lecture is presented biannually in memory of the late Everard Dean whose life and work have been instrumental in shaping the Co-operative movement in the region. Distinguished scholars and other highly respected Caribbean and International speakers are selected to deliver presentations biannually on the importance of Co-operatives to Caribbean regional development and integration.
The Credit Union operating principles are founded in the philosophy of Co-operation and its central values of equality, equity and mutual self-help.
At the heart of these principles is the concept of human development and the brother hood of humankind expressed through people working together to achieve a better life for themselves and their community.

CCCU Co-operative Business Centre
Mandated by CCCU membership in 1997 to establish a revenue unit for the Organisation, the CCCU Business Centre was registered as a co-operative in July 2003. The CCCUCBC elected its own Board of Directors at its first Annual General Meeting on 28 June 2004. Further, the Business Centre engages in the following activities: Financial Services, Human Resources Development, Information Technology, Mergers/Amalgamations, Project Management, Institutional Strengthening and Technical Assistance.
The CCCU is a Class C shareholder in the CCCU Co-operative Business Centre and has two (2) positions on the Board of Directors of the Co-operative Business Centre.
