Montserrat forms part of the Leeward Islands and is still a British colony.  The Island is mountainous and attracted world attention in recent years with the advent of the Soufrier Hills, volcano that destroyed a major portion of the Island, including the capital town of Plymouth.

Some 2/3 of the inhabitants fled the Country during the volcanic eruption.  Those who remained have been involved in a massive reconstruction building programme.  The Financial Institutions all left the Country except the lone Credit Union - St. Patrick's Co-operative Credit Union which admirably filled the void.

Construction, and tourism are the main pillars of the economy.  Returning residents have also been playing a major role in the rebuilding process.

The St. Patricks's Co-operative Credit Union is the only one on the Island and is a member of CCCU.  The President is Mr. Joseph Cassell.
