When the history of the Nevis Co-operative Credit Union Ltd., is written, the name of Eileen Muriel Blackett, M.B.E., and the footprints left by her, will be forever etched on the pages. Mrs Blackett who died on June 27, 2012, was the personification of service to the Credit Union Movement. A gentle, humble, individual, she was the consummate “co-operator” who performed her roles with a missionary zeal with the watch words of honesty and charity. Mrs. Blackett joined the Charlestown (now Nevis) Co-operative credit Union in 1968 and served as Treasurer from 1975 to 1983, and Manager from 1977 until her retirement in 1991. During her tenure, she nurtured the Credit Union from a mere volunteer led savings and lending co-operative, into an island-wide and professionally run co-operative financial institution. Mrs. Blackett was the recipient of the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions Distinguished Services Award in 1995, for her contribution to Credit Union development in the Caribbean. The Board of Directors, management and members of the Confederation, extend deepest condolences to her relatives and friends. |
